About the therapist
CRISTINA SHUPE, PT — PHYSICAL THERAPIST
Hi, I’m Cristi, owner and founder of Calyx Physical Therapy. I am a physical therapist with over 25 years of experience helping people recover from injuries, manage chronic pain, and improve movement. I have specialized training in pelvic health, but I also treat a broad range of conditions, including neck and back pain, TMJ disorders, orthopedic issues, and chronic pain syndromes.
Over time, my practice has evolved to support individuals living with a broad spectrum of chronic and complex conditions—from musculoskeletal issues like lower back pain, sciatica, chronic ankle sprains, and TMJD, to nervous and vascular problems, including post-concussion syndrome, peripheral neuropathies, and autonomic dysregulation, and visceral dysfunctions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and breathing difficulties.
I have pursued extensive continuing education throughout my career, including advanced training in manual therapy techniques, fascial counterstrain, Pilates for rehabilitation, orthopedic rehabilitation as well as the treatment of chronic pain. This ongoing education informs my holistic approach, integrating hands-on techniques with movement education to develop personalized plans that promote healing, restore function, and prevent recurrence.
A major influence on this evolution has been my training in Fascial Counterstrain—a gentle, precise manual therapy that targets restrictions across all of the body’s systems. This approach helps uncover and treat the often-overlooked root causes of pain and dysfunction, making it a powerful tool for complex conditions.
I stay actively involved in advanced training to keep pace with the evolving research behind Fascial Counterstrain, allowing me to offer care that’s both current and deeply personalized. I truly love what I do and consider it an honor to support each person’s healing process.
My approach is grounded in compassion, curiosity, and deep respect for the human body. I listen closely to each individual, recognizing that pain and dysfunction show up differently for everyone. Healing, in my experience, is most effective when it’s personal, thorough, and rooted in a whole-person perspective.
“My mission is to offer compassionate, evidence-based care that restores your movement, relieves symptoms, and helps you return to the activities you love, promoting lasting healing and well-being.”
